How Qashier works out 12% VAT for Philippine stores (VATable sales, VAT amount, VAT-exempt sales and zero-rated sales) and where you can see these amounts.
Applies to: Philippines only · Qashier POS and QashierHQ · VAT-registered stores.
VAT-registered businesses must show VAT details on each sales invoice. Qashier shows the VATable, VAT-exempt and zero-rated amounts automatically. For filing questions, ask your accountant or the BIR.
Before you start
Choose whether your prices include VAT (VAT Inclusive) or have VAT added on top (VAT Exclusive), and set the 12% rate. See How to Set Up GST, SST or VAT (Tax Inclusive / Exclusive) in QashierHQ.
Mark any VAT-exempt or zero-rated products. See [PH] How to Mark a Product as VAT Exempt or Zero-rated (POS & QashierHQ).
How VAT is calculated
In the examples below, an apple normally sells for PHP 100 and is sold at a promotional price of PHP 90. The VAT rate is 12%.
1. VATable sales
The selling price of taxable products and modifiers, without the VAT amount.
VAT inclusive: VATable sales = Selling price ÷ 1.12. Example: 90 ÷ 1.12 = PHP 80.36.
VAT exclusive: VATable sales = Selling price. Example: PHP 90.
2. VAT (12%) amount
The total VAT you charge.
VAT inclusive: VAT amount = Selling price ÷ 1.12 × 0.12. Example: 90 ÷ 1.12 × 0.12, so the VAT amount is PHP 9.64.
VAT exclusive: VAT amount = Selling price × 0.12. Example: 90 × 0.12, so the VAT amount is PHP 10.80.
3. VAT exempt sales
The sum of the selling price of all VAT-exempt products and modifiers, after item-level and bill-level discounts are applied. Every product you mark as VAT exempt adds to this total when it is sold.
4. Zero-rated sales
The sum of the selling price of all zero-rated products and modifiers, after item-level and bill-level discounts are applied. Every product you mark as zero-rated adds to this total when it is sold.
5. Special discounts
When a Senior Citizen, PWD, Solo Parent, NAAC or MOV discount is applied, the POS works out the VAT for that sale separately. On the Z-Reading, the VAT-exempt part of these sales is included in VAT Exempt Sales, and each discount type has its own line (SC Discount, PWD Discount, NAAC Discount, SP Discount, MOV Discount). See [PH] BIR Special Discounts (SC/PWD/NAAC/SP/MOV), Receipts & Audit Reports.
