A factory reset returns your barcode scanner to its default settings. Use it when the scanner stops reading barcodes it used to read, types the wrong characters into the POS, or was changed by scanning a wrong configuration code.
Applies to: All markets · Barcode scanners supplied by Qashier: the Zebra handheld scanner and the Honeywell HF680 omnidirectional (desktop) scanner · No PIN needed.
To tell which scanner you have, check the model printed on the label underneath the unit.
Scanners bought outside Qashier can be used, but our support team can't troubleshoot them. See Can I Use My Own Printer or Barcode Scanner with Qashier POS?. For those scanners, follow the manufacturer's manual.
Before you reset
Check that the USB cable is firmly connected at both ends.
Try another USB port on the POS.
Restart the POS.
A factory reset does not change the scanner's interface (USB) setting.
Factory reset the Zebra handheld scanner
Connect the handheld scanner to the POS and make sure it is powered on.
Hold the scanner straight on to the Set Factory Defaults barcode below and scan it. Do not scan it at an angle. The second image shows the right way to hold the scanner.
Wait for the confirmation beep. The scanner resets on its own.
Test it: tap POS & Payment on the POS and scan a product.
The barcode above is from the Zebra LS2208 guide. If the label on your scanner says DS2208 and this barcode does not reset it, use the Set Factory Defaults barcode from the Zebra DS2208 product reference guide instead.
Factory reset the Honeywell HF680 omnidirectional scanner
Make sure your omnidirectional (desktop) scanner is connected to the POS and powered on.
Hold the barcode below in front of the scanner window and scan it.
Wait for the confirmation beep. The scanner resets on its own.
Test it: tap POS & Payment on the POS and scan a product.
After the reset
If a scanned product is no longer added to the order automatically, scan the auto-search barcode again. See Barcode Scanner Not Adding Items? How to Enable Auto-Search.
If something goes wrong
Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
No beep when you scan the reset barcode | The scanner is not powered, or the barcode was scanned at an angle or too close | Reseat the USB cable, hold the scanner straight on and a little further from the screen, and try again. Printing the barcode can help. |
The scanner beeps but the POS shows nothing or wrong characters | Auto-search is off, or the scanner is set to the wrong keyboard mode | Scan the auto-search barcode (link above). If that does not help, contact Qashier Support with your scanner model. |
