How to Print Chinese Characters on the Kitchen Printer (Older Units)

Need your Kitchen Printer to print Chinese characters? Here's how to do it.

Summary: Use this guide if Chinese product names print as garbled symbols or question marks on an older Qashier kitchen printer while English prints fine. Two small switches under the printer turn on Chinese character mode.

Applies to: All markets · Qashier POS with a kitchen (additional) printer · the older black Qashier kitchen printer (Gprinter) issued before 2023.

Does this apply to me?

  • Your kitchen printer is the black Qashier kitchen printer (Gprinter) issued before 2023.

  • Chinese item names come out as symbols, boxes or question marks on the kitchen chit, while English prints normally.

Qashier POS sends kitchen chits to additional printers in the GBK (Chinese) character set. A printer that is not in Chinese mode cannot draw those characters, so the chit looks garbled. If your printer is newer and Chinese still prints as symbols, contact support instead of changing switches.

Steps

  1. Switch off the kitchen printer.

  2. Turn the printer over so the bottom faces up.

  3. Open the small cover lid and find the row of numbered switches.

  4. Push switches 2 and 6 up.

  5. Close the cover lid and switch the kitchen printer back on.

  6. Test it: on Qashier POS, open the side menu and tap Test Print (Additional Printer), or send a test order that contains a Chinese item name, and check the printout. See How to Do a Test Print on Qashier POS (Built-in and Additional Printers).
