Split a table's bill by item so each guest pays only for what they ordered. Each part is paid and recorded as its own transaction.
Applies to: All markets · Qashier POS · stores with the Table Management add-on.
To split a bill equally or into parts at the payment page instead, see How to Split a Bill Into Parts in Qashier POS.
Before you start
Table Management must be turned on for your store, and the order must be on a table. See How to Use Table Management in Qashier POS: Set Up Tables, Take Orders and Collect Payment.
If you want to give a bill discount, use a percentage (%) discount. You can't split by item when a dollar-amount bill discount is on the table.
You can't split by item when loyalty points have been redeemed on the table.
Example
A group of three students celebrate a competition win. The orders are taken together at one table, but each student wants to pay for their own meal.
Order details:
2 x Chicken Chop - SGD 24.00
1 x Kopi - SGD 2.00
2 x Iced Teh - SGD 2.20
Student A and Student B each had 1 Chicken Chop and 1 Iced Teh. Student C had the Kopi.
Split the bill by item
Go to POS & Payment.
Tap the table whose bill you want to split.
Tap Split Bill in the table toolbar (next to Void, Reprint, QR, Discount and Add Item). Each item now shows − and + controls, starting at 0.
Tap + on each item the first guest is paying for, until the quantity matches what they had. In the example, for Student A: tap + once on Chicken Chop and once on Iced Teh.
Tap Payment.
On the payment page, select the payment method the guest chooses.
After selecting the payment method, tap Confirm to complete the payment.
The table stays open with the items that have not been paid for yet. Repeat steps 2 to 7 for the next guest (in the example, Student B: 1 Chicken Chop and 1 Iced Teh).
The last guest does not need to split. Open the table and tap Payment as normal to pay for everything that is left (in the example, Student C pays for the Kopi).
Here is a video of the steps:
In older versions of Qashier POS, Split Bill was an unlabelled double-arrow icon at the top right, as shown in the video. It is now a labelled button in the table toolbar.
What you should see
Each part creates its own transaction and receipt. For example, if the bill is split for 3 guests, you will see 3 separate transactions in the transaction record.
After each split payment, only the unpaid items stay on the table. The table closes when the last payment is made.
Things to note
Split by item works only on table orders (Table Management).
Don't select every item on the table for one split payment. Leave at least one item for the last guest, who pays with Payment as normal.
You can't combine split by item with the Split button (split equally or into parts) on the payment page.
While split mode is on, you can't edit items on the table. Tap Split Bill again to leave split mode.
