Summary: Customers who order on their phone and choose Pay online can now spend their Treats points at checkout. Points apply automatically, customers can choose how many to use, and points can cover the whole bill. Customers who pay at the counter keep redeeming at the POS, exactly as before.
Applies to: Treats Ordering (Mobile Ordering) and branded ordering apps with Pay online turned on · Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. Not yet available in the Philippines.
What you need to set up
Nothing. Redeem Online is on by default for every store that uses Treats, takes Pay online on Mobile Ordering, and has a points redemption rate above 0.
Online redemption uses the same points rate your store already uses at the counter. There is no separate online rate.
If your redemption rate is set to 0 (staff decides the amount at the till), online redemption is off.
The same rules as the counter apply: no minimum and no cap on how much of a bill points can cover.
For a brand group, customers have one balance across all outlets. Points earned at any outlet can be spent online at any other, at the same rate.
To turn online redemption off for a store or your whole account, contact Qashier support. There is no switch for this in QashierHQ yet.
What customers see at checkout
The customer logs in on the ordering page, adds items and goes to checkout.
They select Pay online. A Use my points card shows their balance, for example "76 points available".
The card is ticked by default and applies the most points the order allows, for example "76 points = -$3.80".
The order summary adds a Points redeemed line, and Total Amount drops to what will be charged.
To use fewer points, the customer drags the slider. The discount and total update as they slide. To keep all their points, they untick the card.
They tap Place Order and pay. Points come off their balance only after the payment goes through.
When points cover the whole bill
The total shows $0.00 and the customer sees "Your points cover the whole bill. Place the order?". After they tap Submit, there is no payment screen. The order goes straight to your POS.
Other messages customers may see
Not logged in: the card reads "Log in to use your points on this order" and opens the usual login.
No points yet: the card reads "No points here yet. Pay online and start earning."
Switching to Pay at counter: if points are applied, the customer is asked first: "Points will be removed. Points can only be used when paying online. Pay at the counter and your points stay in your balance." They can still redeem with the cashier at the till.
Balance changed during checkout (for example, points were spent at a counter): "Your available points changed. The amount has been updated." The slider resets. Customers are never charged a different amount from what they saw.
After the order
The order receipt page lists Points redeemed with the number of points, their value and the total paid.
In the Treats app (or your branded app), the order shows as one row in the points history with the net points change. The detail reads, for example, "-76 Reward points redeemed".
How the points are calculated
Points pay for the items first. Service charge and tax are then worked out on what is left, the same way the POS handles a counter redemption.
By default, an order that uses points earns no new points, the same as on the POS. If your store has Give points when redeeming turned on, the customer earns points on the item total after points.
The examples below use a rate of 20 points = $1 (each point is worth 5 cents).
Situation | Points | Customer pays |
Balance 76 points, $10.40 order, pays online | 76 used, $3.80 off | $6.60 |
Same order, customer slides to 40 points | 40 used, $2.00 off, 36 kept | $8.40 |
Balance 840 points, $10.20 order | 204 used, $10.20 off, 636 left | $0.00, no payment screen |
Customer applies points, then switches to Pay at counter | Points removed, all 76 stay in the balance | $10.40 at the counter, where the cashier can redeem as usual |
Customer backs out of the payment page | Nothing taken. The points are held for up to 30 minutes on that unpaid order | — |
Store has Give points when redeeming on | 76 used on the $10.40 order | $6.60, and earns points on the $6.60 item total |
Only whole points are used. The discount is rounded down to the cent, so to bring a bill to $0.00 the order may use one more point than the exact value.
What your staff see on the POS
Orders arrive already paid. Takeaway orders show Paid Online on the online-order bell. On a dine-in table, items paid online sit under Paid item and are left out of anything the cashier charges. Staff collect nothing.
Transaction Record shows a Points Redeemed line on the sale, with the points and their value.
Pay-at-counter customers redeem at the till as today. Nothing changes for the cashier. See How to Redeem Loyalty Points in Qashier POS.
"Points will be removed" message at Pay
When a cashier taps Pay on a sale with a customer attached and points applied, the POS checks the customer's balance again. If some of those points were spent elsewhere in the meantime (online or at another terminal), the cashier sees, for example: "Points have changed. This customer now has 50 pts, so points applied are now 50 (was 76). New amount to pay: $7.90."
Tap OK and continue the sale at the new amount with any payment method. If the terminal cannot reach the server, the sale carries on as before. This message is in English only for now.
Reports in QashierHQ
Online redemptions are included in the same Total Redeemed Point Amount line as counter redemptions. See Understanding Your Sales Report.
In the transaction detail, an online order that used points is labelled Online Transaction and shows Points awarded and Points redeemed.
Common questions
Q: Can customers use points if they choose Pay at counter on the ordering page?
No. Points can only be used online when paying online. Customers who pay at the counter redeem with the cashier at the POS, as before.
Q: What happens to the points if the online payment fails?
Nothing is taken. Points come off the balance only after the payment succeeds.
Q: A customer says some of their points are missing at checkout. Why?
If they left an earlier online order unpaid, the points on it are held for up to 30 minutes. Checkout shows how many points are held on their other unpaid orders. After 30 minutes, the points are available again.
Q: Why doesn't the payment receipt email or the printed POS receipt show the points?
The automatic payment receipt email and the receipt printed from the online-order bell show the amount paid but no points line yet. An order paid fully with points does not send a payment email. The points appear on the customer's order receipt page and in Transaction Record on the POS.
Q: I refunded an online order that used points. Are the points returned?
Not automatically for now. Contact Qashier support so the team can check and adjust the customer's points balance.
Q: Can I set a minimum or maximum for online redemptions?
Not in this version. Online redemption follows the same rules as the counter: no minimum and no cap.
