Summary: The Waiter Display System (WDS) is a tablet screen for front-of-house staff. It shows each paid order as a tile, in the same layout as the Kitchen Display (KDS), so runners and waiters can see what to bring to which table or queue number and tap Done when the order has been served. It is an add-on and runs on the same Qashier app as the KDS.
Applies to: All markets · F&B stores · the Waiter Display System (WDS) add-on in Qashier Marketplace, activated per screen (whether it costs extra depends on your market and plan) · a QashierKDS 10" or QashierTab 8" tablet, or another Android device running the Qashier app, that Qashier has set as a WDS screen. A QashierXL cannot be used as the display.
Before you start
Activate the add-on: in QashierHQ open Qashier Marketplace, find the Waiter Display System (WDS) add-on and use the button on its card to contact Qashier. See How to Add Features and Manage Your Plan in Qashier Marketplace (QashierHQ).
Set up the tablet and log it in to your store: How to Set Up Your QashierKDS (10") or QashierTab (8") Tablet. Tell support which tablet is the WDS; Qashier assigns it a screen number (w1, w2, ...) and puts the app into WDS mode.
Decide which products should appear on the WDS. Products go to a WDS screen only if they are assigned to it (open items and customised products go to every WDS screen automatically).
Assign products to a WDS screen
In QashierHQ
Under Products & Inventory, click Product Management and open the product.
In WDS Selection, tick the screen or screens (w1, w2, ...) that should show this product. The field appears only when the store has at least one WDS screen. KDS Selection next to it does the same for kitchen screens.
Save the product. Repeat for every product that front-of-house staff need to see.
On Qashier POS
Tap the ☰ menu, then Manage Products, and open the product.
In WDS Selection, choose the screen or screens, then save.
Open the Waiter Display
On the tablet, open the Qashier app and log in to the store.
Tap the ☰ menu and then Open Waiter Display. (On a tablet set as a kitchen screen the item reads Open Kitchen Display instead.)
The screen shows one tile per order. To leave the display, use the exit option in the display's menu; see How to Open and Exit the Kitchen Display (KDS) on Qashier POS, which applies to the WDS too.
Using the Waiter Display
When orders appear: an order reaches the WDS when it is paid on the POS. Items added to a table, and bills put on hold, are sent as soon as they are saved, before payment. Each tile shows the table number, queue number or pager number, the order type (dine-in, takeaway, pick-up or delivery) and the items assigned to this screen, with any item notes.
Tile colours by age: blue for under 5 minutes, yellow for 5 to 15 minutes, red for over 15 minutes. These times are fixed.
Order Summary sidebar: lists the total quantity of each product across all open tiles. Tap a product to highlight it on every tile; tap again to clear.
Done: tap Done on a tile when the order has been served, then tap Confirm. The order is marked as served and moves to Completed orders.
Completed orders: tap Completed orders to see served orders; the screen shows VIEWING COMPLETED ORDERS. Tap Recall on a tile to bring it back to the active view.
Print: prints the order chit for that tile. If every item on the order was voided you see No items to print. This order was fully voided.
Voided items: when an item is voided on the POS, the display plays an alert and shows Item Voided with the item name and its table or queue number, so staff do not serve it. Tap Confirm to close the message.
The WDS keeps up to 75 open orders. When more arrive, the oldest open orders are marked as served automatically and move to Completed orders, so check that list if an order seems to have disappeared.
Settings in QashierHQ
Click the Settings (gear) icon at the top right (on a phone-sized screen, tap your account icon and choose Settings), open Additional Settings and go to F&B Settings:
KDS/WDS Auto Print Order Chit: lets the display trigger the order chit on the kitchen printer, useful when the printer is far from the POS.
KDS/WDS Expiring Length in Seconds: a timing setting shared by KDS and WDS screens. Ask support before you change it.
Both settings apply to KDS and WDS screens together. Where a setting is not shown, it is not enabled for your account; contact support.
What you should see
The ☰ menu on the tablet shows Open Waiter Display.
After a sale is paid on the POS, a new tile appears on the WDS with the items assigned to that screen.
Tapping Done and then Confirm moves the tile to Completed orders.
If something goes wrong
Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
No Open Waiter Display item in the menu | The add-on is not active, the tablet has not been set as a WDS screen, or the device is a QashierXL | Check the add-on in Qashier Marketplace and ask support to assign the tablet as a WDS screen |
The menu shows Open Kitchen Display instead | The tablet is set as a kitchen screen | Ask support to switch the tablet to WDS mode |
An order does not appear on the WDS | The product is not assigned to this screen, or the order has not been paid, added to a table or put on hold yet | Check WDS Selection on the product; complete the payment or save the order to the table. Also check Completed orders. |
Tiles are not updating | The tablet is offline | Check the Wi-Fi connection; the display needs internet to receive orders |
No WDS Selection field on the product | The store has no WDS screen yet | Activate the add-on first |
