How to Run a Self-Ordering QashierKiosk: Order Types, Menu Visibility and Paying at the Kiosk

What customers see on a QashierKiosk (order type, items, special instructions, payment), how the inactivity timer works, and how to control the kiosk menu from QashierHQ.

A QashierKiosk lets customers browse your menu, customise items and pay on their own. This guide explains what the customer sees, how order types and payment work at the kiosk, and how you control what the kiosk shows from QashierHQ. For the hardware itself, see Introduction to QashierKiosk (Self-Ordering Kiosk).

Applies to: Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines · QashierKiosk running Qashier POS in self-ordering mode (Qashier switches the kiosk to this mode when it is set up) · the kiosk counts as one of the devices on your plan.

Before you start

  • Your menu is set up in QashierHQ with product images. The kiosk always shows product images, so add one to every item customers can order.

  • The kiosk is online and logged in to the same store as your counter POS, so orders and payments land in the same reports.

  • If customers pay by card at the kiosk, the QashierPay terminal mounted on the kiosk is paired and online.

What the customer sees

  1. Idle screen. While no one is ordering, the kiosk plays your carousel images. Upload them in QashierHQ at 1080 × 1920 pixels; see How to Show Promotions on the Customer Display (Carousel). The customer taps Touch to start your order at the bottom of the screen to begin.

  2. Dine In or Takeaway. Both buttons always show. If your kiosk is set to one order type only, the other button is dimmed and tapping it shows Sorry, Dine-in option is not available through this Kiosk (or the Takeaway equivalent). To change which order types the kiosk offers, contact support.

  3. Browse and add items. The customer taps through your tabs and categories, picks modifiers and combos, and sets quantities. Sold-out modifier options are shown with a sold-out label rather than hidden.

  4. Special Instructions. For products where you allow special instructions, the customer can type a note of up to 120 characters (for example "less sweet").

  5. Order summary. The customer opens the Order Summary panel, which slides in from the right with the subtotal, tax, service charge, discount and total. They can tap an item to edit it, then tap Checkout. Order notes, bill splitting, voucher or points redemption and tipping are not offered at the kiosk.

  6. Pay. For QR payment methods, the kiosk shows Please scan the [payment method] QR code or Please pay by [payment method]. For card payments, it shows Please pay on the payment terminal and the customer taps or inserts their card on the QashierPay terminal mounted on the kiosk. The payment methods offered depend on your store's setup.

  7. Done. The kiosk prints the receipt with the order number, and the order goes to your kitchen display or kitchen printer like any other order.

If the customer walks away, the kiosk asks Still looking? after 60 seconds without a touch. The customer taps Continue to keep ordering, or Restart Order to clear the order. If nobody responds within 15 seconds, the kiosk returns to the idle screen and the unfinished order is discarded.

Control what the kiosk shows (QashierHQ)

Menu changes made in QashierHQ sync to the kiosk automatically. If a change does not appear, check that the kiosk is online, then restart it.

What you should see

  • Kiosk orders appear in Transaction Record on your counter POS and under Transactions in QashierHQ, with your other sales for the store.

  • Paid kiosk orders go to your KDS or kitchen printer.
