Fit a SIM card in your QashierX1 to run it on 4G mobile data instead of Wi-Fi, and switch on the X1's Wi-Fi hotspot so a QashierPay terminal can share that connection.
Applies to: Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines · QashierX1 · Hotspot must be enabled for your store by Qashier Support.
Which SIM card to use
Market | SIM guidance |
Singapore | TPG SIM cards do not work on the QashierX1. Use a SIM card from Singtel, M1 or StarHub. |
Malaysia | U Mobile SIM cards do not work on the QashierX1. Use a SIM card from Maxis, Celcom or Digi. |
Thailand, Philippines | Ask your local support team which carriers are confirmed to work: Contact Qashier Support. |
In every market, the SIM needs an active mobile data plan.
Before you start
A screwdriver or similar tool to open the back cover.
A standard-size SIM, or a standard SIM adapter if your SIM is micro, mini or nano size.
Insert the SIM card into the QashierX1
Switch off the QashierX1.
Turn the POS over.
Unscrew and remove the cover on the back of the POS.
Insert the standard-size SIM into the slot as shown in the animation below.
Replace the cover and switch on the QashierX1.
Look for the 4G icon in the status bar at the top of the screen.
If the 4G icon does not appear, mobile data may be switched off on the device. Contact Qashier Support and ask them to open device settings on your POS so you can turn on mobile data. Once they have done so, tap ☰ (top right) > Wifi to open the device settings, go to the mobile network settings and switch mobile data on. This access is closed again automatically afterwards.
Turn on the hotspot on the QashierX1
Don't see Hotspot in the ☰ menu? The Hotspot item only appears when hotspot has been enabled for your store and the device is a QashierX1 or QashierXS. Contact Qashier Support and ask them to enable Hotspot for your store.
On the POS home screen, tap ☰ (top right) > Hotspot. The Android tethering and portable hotspot screen opens.
Select Wi-Fi hotspot.
Go to Keep Wi-Fi hotspot on and select Always.
Go to Set up Wi-Fi hotspot.
Under Network name, enter the hotspot name you want other devices to see. Under Password, set your own strong password and keep it somewhere safe. Tap Save.
Check that the hotspot switch at the top of the page is now on.
Using a QashierPay terminal? On the terminal, open its Wi-Fi settings and connect to the hotspot name and password you set above.
What you should see
The 4G icon shows in the status bar and the POS syncs with QashierHQ.
Other devices can see and join the hotspot name you set.
If something goes wrong
Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
No 4G icon after inserting the SIM | SIM not seated, no active data plan, or mobile data switched off | Switch the X1 off, re-seat the SIM (use the adapter if needed) and switch it on again; check the plan is active with your telco; if it still does not show, follow the mobile data step above |
4G icon shows but the POS does not sync | Weak signal or data plan exhausted | Move the POS nearer a window; top up the plan; restart the POS |
Hotspot missing from the ☰ menu | Hotspot not enabled for your store | Ask Qashier Support to enable it |
