Payment terminals supplied by Qashier run only the apps that Qashier installs and updates. You cannot add apps from the Google Play Store, install APK files or load other Android software on them. This is a deliberate security control for devices that process card payments, not a fault with the terminal.

Why payment terminals are locked
A payment terminal handles card data and transaction records, so it is held to stricter rules than a personal phone or tablet.
Payment-card security standards. Qashier is PCI DSS compliant. The card schemes' security standards expect the software on payment devices to be controlled, tested and approved. See How Qashier Protects Your Data (PCI DSS, PDPA & Privacy).
Financial regulators. Regulators in each market expect payment providers to keep strict, auditable control over the software running on devices that handle transactions.
Cybersecurity. An app installed outside Qashier's review could carry malware, ask for excessive permissions or open a path for attackers to intercept payment data. Limiting the terminal to approved software closes that door.
What this means for you
You can use only the apps that come pre-installed on the terminal or that Qashier installs for you.
Qashier pushes app updates to your terminal. If Qashier POS asks you to Allow install from this source, that permission is only for Qashier's own updates.
Qashier does not install third-party apps on payment terminals.
Many providers of dedicated card-payment terminals restrict app installation for the same reasons.
Common questions
Can I request an exception to install a specific app on my terminal?
No. Qashier does not install third-party apps on payment terminals. If you need another app for your business, run it on a separate phone or tablet, or tell us what you need (see the next question).
What if I need a function my terminal does not have?
Contact support and tell us your store name, the terminal model and the function or app you need. If it is broadly useful and passes security review, it may be added to a future Qashier release. See Contact Qashier Support by Phone, WhatsApp, LINE or Viber (SG, MY, TH, PH).
Can I run Qashier POS on a device that is not locked?
Yes. Qashier POS also runs on your own Android phone or tablet and on Sunmi T2, T2s and T2s Lite devices, which Qashier does not lock. See the two articles linked above.
