Sell by Weight / Volume Feature

Overview

The Sell by Weight / Volume feature allows merchants to price products based on their actual measured quantity rather than a fixed price per item. This is ideal for businesses selling items where the final price depends on weight or volume, such as seafood, meat, fruits, or beverages.

Key benefits:

  • Automatically calculates the final price based on the quantity entered in POS

  • Supports products sold by weight (e.g., grams, kilograms) or volume (e.g., ml, liters)

  • Ensures accurate billing at checkout

  • Clearly displays the measured quantity on orders and receipts for staff, kitchen, and customers

Who is this useful for?

This feature is ideal for merchants who price products based on weight or volume, such as:

  • Seafood restaurants selling crab, lobster, or fish by weight

  • Meat shops selling beef, pork, or chicken per kilogram

  • Beverage stores selling liquids by milliliters or liters

Example

A seafood restaurant sells Chilli Crab at $100 per kilogram.

Configuration example:

  • Price: $100

  • Base Quantity: 1000

  • Unit: g

When a staff member enters 1.2 as the quantity in the POS:

  • The system calculates: 1.2 × $100 = $120

  • The quantity displayed becomes 1200 g

The order will appear clearly as:

Chilli Crab (1200 g)

This helps ensure that staff, kitchen staff, and customers all clearly see the product’s exact weight or volume.

How to Set Up Sell by Weight / Volume

Follow these steps to enable the feature:

  1. Go to QashierHQ and navigate to Products.

  2. Select the product you want to configure, then click Edit Product.

  3. Open Advanced Settings.

  4. Enable Sell by Weight / Volume.

  5. Configure the following fields:

    1. Base Quantity (e.g., 1000)

    2. Unit (e.g., g, kg, ml, L)

How It Works on POS

When the product is selected in the POS:

  1. Staff enters the measured quantity (e.g., 1.2).

  2. The POS automatically calculates the final price based on the configured base price.

  3. The system displays the converted unit clearly in the order.
